One means of achieving this can be the use of highly saturated films such as Fujichrome Velvia, which achieve this through chemical-physical refinements. These emulsions are so color-rich that you can confidently dispense with the long-used means of underexposing by 1/3 or 2/3 exposure stops to increase color saturation.
