You are in „Things and Concepts“
The concept of self-similarity vibrates an ancient chord in our soul. Buddhism already understood this concept through the metaphor of Indra’s net. It says that, starting from Indra’s heavenly palace on Mount Sumeru, a large net extends infinitely far in all ten directions. The nodes of this net each contain a shining, transparent gemstone. In the cut surfaces of these infinitely many precious stones, all other precious stones are reflected. These innumerable images are in turn reflected in all the other gems of the net.
This principle expresses the view of Buddhist holism. Every object and every living thing does not exist in isolation by itself but is connected to all others and is itself contained in every other part. Everything is mutually interpenetrated. The short form of this principle is: All in One – One in All.

„The Buddhas realize with their wisdom that the whole cosmos of existences without exception is like the great net in the Indra palace, so that all existences, like the gems at each node of the Indra net, reflect among themselves infinitely and inexhaustibly their images and the images of images, and so on.“
